This
'69 Mach I is nothing short of amazing! She has
less than 20 miles on her since a complete
ground-up restoration. This car is nicer than
when she rolled off the assembly line new on
January 24, 1969.
During restoration the body was disassembled,
media-blasted, blocked, sealed, reinstalled &
aligned. Then the body panels were removed again
for individual painting. Four coats of both PPG
base coat and DuPont clear coat later, the body panels
were reinstalled for their final alignment.
Needless to say, the result is a perfectly
aligned body dressed in brilliant flowing
Acapulco blue paint. Factory correct gold
Mach1decals wrap around the body and the hood
has the correct mat-black appliqué. All the
chrome work is in excellent polished condition,
as are the wheels. The front and rear deck have
the optional spoilers - note: the rear spoiler
is a '70 vintage, used because these fiberglass
spoilers do not warp as the plastic '69 spoilers
did. The undercarriage was cared for equally
well and is painted factory-correct in red
oxide.
The
engine bay was painted factory-correct low-gloss
black and is filled with a strong running 390CID
V-8. During the restoration the restorer added
the "Shaker" hood assembly to the Date-Correct
engine. The optional assembly is made from
original Ford parts but this Mach 1 was not
ordered with that feature. The engine has been
completely disassembled and reassembled. During
the process she was bored .030 over with
matching pistons and ring assemblies installed.
The cylinder heads received a valve-job with new
hardened seals (she will run on premium
unleaded). New hydraulic camshaft, lifter
assemblies, gaskets, and oil pump are just some
of the parts replaced during the overhaul. The
exhaust manifolds were checked for straightness,
cleaned, and powder coated before reassembly,
when the engine was painted per factory specs.
She has a Ford 4300 carburetor.
Like
the engine, the 4-speed top loader transmission
was completely torn-down, repaired, and
reassembled - including new synchronizers,
bearings, and seals. The Hurst shifter assembly
was added for a more-precise shifting feel. The
rear axle was also rebuilt with new 3.25 ring &
pinion, traction lok, bearings, and seals. The
braking system was completely gone through as
well including new correct: brake lines shoes,
pads, calipers, wheel cylinders, and more. The
suspension was gone through adding staggered
shocks - set up like 428 Cobra Jet cars,
providing additional traction.
The
interior is in fantastic condition as well.
It too was restored to factory specifications. New
factory-correct materials include: white clarion
seat covers, headliner, carpet, deluxe door
panels, and dash pad. All the factory gauges and
controls work properly. This Mach 1 came with an
AM/FM radio but has been upgraded to a working
factory AM/8-Track unit. All the glass is in
excellent condition.
Yes,
this is a wonderful car in amazing condition.
Less than 2% 69' Mustang fastbacks were built
like this one was. She is fully restored to her
factory specifications per the Marti report -
except where noted above. This is one impressive
classic. Do not let this one get away, you will
not find another like it! |
