1939 Buick Special Resto-Mod
One look at this car and I was
impressed. She is absolutely stunning! The body lines on this classic seem to
just flow and are beautifully highlighted by the factory-correct English Green
paint and plentiful polished chrome brightwork. Walking around her, I was
impressed as I found the fit and finish to be superb, and found solid metal and
evenly applied paint everywhere I looked. I noticed the wheels were from an
earlier model but fit this classic so well, they just looked right along with
the wide-whitewall radial tires. This is a show-stopping car by any measure!
Opening the hood, I was shocked and
then delighted to find a small block 350 V-8 tucked neatly away in the engine
compartment. Further investigation uncovered even more treats; which include
Vintage A/C, power steering, 12-volt electrics, HEI distributor, electric fuel
pump, electric auxiliary engine fans, and special engine-bay lighting for car
shows. Looking under the car, I noticed even more; so much more I needed to get
her on a lift to see all the fine details.
The underside is clean and solid
with the original frame intact. From underneath, you can see a modern turbo 350
automatic transmission was tastefully added providing reliability and properly
handling the engine's power, pushing it to the Nova 3.73 rear end. The rear
suspension is largely stock with the addition of modern shock absorbers. Towards
the front, I discovered the transmission cooler with electric fan alongside the
power brake and master cylinder mechanism - all professionally mounted under the
driver's seat. Under the front suspension, you notice it is not stock yet
everywhere appears as if it could have come from the factory just that way. Upon
further investigation, I discovered the front suspension and brakes framework
are from a '70 Nova, and were expertly joined with the factory Buick frame.
Looking at the details, you know this car was built right!
Back up top, I get my first look at
this four-door's family-sized interior. Yes, this is a classic you could take
the whole family in and still be speaking when you arrive at your destination.
If I didn't know any better, I would assume the interior is stock original. The
colors are matched perfectly to complement the exterior, the materials are
period appropriate, and the seat frames are stock. The tasteful additions of
front power windows, Vintage A/C controls, aftermarket polished gauge cluster,
tilt steering column, and a LeCarrera steering wheel all fit this car's
character nicely but aren't factory-original. Getting back out of the car, I
checked the trunk which was finished nicely with the same show lights as the
engine bay. Inside out, top to bottom this car is impressive. I couldn't find
anything I would add, change, or delete. This is the way I would do a resto-mod!
Needless to say, once I saw her I
knew this was a car I would be proud to represent and honored to help find her a
new home. So, if you have been looking for one of the finest resto-mods on the
planet you have come across your car! Act now, before she is added to someone
else's collection!
