Apparently the next generation of classic car
collectors is alive and well. A 7 year old, who's great and great-great
grandfathers were Cadillac dealers and distributors, was in our showroom as this
Caddy was arriving. Not that his heritage mattered, but the working power front
and rear vent wing windows did! He's now saving for this '64 Fleetwood. His
younger brother was taken by the car's driver-side remote mirror that responds
to a mechanical lever and twist handle.
While he's saving, this Series Sixty-Special
Fleetwood is modestly priced, and ready for you to enjoy. And when you are ready
to sell, our future-collector may have enough quarters put aside.
Since 2006 over $6,000 has been invested to
mechanically refresh this Fleetwood. Work includes the rebuild of the car's
original 429 CID//340HP engine, complete service of the cooling system, the
exhaust system, the brake system, and more. The car's original 3-speed
transmission shifts and runs as new. Even the fully automatic factory a/c has
been serviced and blows ice cold. (1964 was the first year for Cadillac's
automatic climate control system.) The car starts and runs very well. It's
responsive to the touch and purrs like a classy Caddy.
Our '64 Fleetwood has fewer than 50,000 original
miles and has been the estate car for the same global-industrial family since
new. And the car has been serviced and maintained by the dealership that
originally sold the car - distributed to the store by the 7 year old's
ancestors…it's a small world for sure.
The interior is original. The patterned fabric
upholstery looks very good; having no stains or tears, and no noticeable wear or
sun damage. The leather surrounds, vinyl dash and steering wheel are fade, crack
and damage-free. The carpet shows some wear and we are acquiring a correct
replacement carpet. The chrome is remarkably good. All the gauges and
accessories, power windows, lights and such work well with the exception of one
window switch that is scheduled for replacement. The glass is clear and
undamaged. The door seals and gaskets are in good shape with few nicks.
The body shows well, but shows its years. The hood
has been repainted - no one remembers why. The rest of the body is original with
original paint although minor chips and the like have been touched up. The
chrome and stainless trim all show well. The Firestone 22/75 R15 radial tires,
spare and tools are all in good shape - ready for your adventure anywhere.
Bottom line, she's a great “5-10 footer”. By that
we mean you have to get that close to begin seeing flaws. But she's also a go
anywhere car that will get a thumbs up at local shows or as you cruise down the
road.
Maybe best of all; she's little coin for classic
collectors young and old.
